Making Holiday Jam

Every year, towards the end of the jamming season, I make a special something for the holidays.  This year we took a base of highbush cranberries, added thin orange slices and delicate ribbons of peel which we simmered with cinnamon sticks.  Then, at the very end, a dram of whiskey.  At first I thought that the whiskey might have been a mistake, but then I let it settle and tasted it and it made it exactly right: festive, rich and celebrating all of the warmth of the holiday season.
